Board of Water Commissioners addresses FY27 budget discrepancies
Board of Water Commissioners · Meeting of February 17, 2026
WEST NEWBURY — Water Board reviews FY27 budget, identifies spending discrepancies. Chair Robert Janes, Member John Haley, and Member Mark Hemingway met with Water Superintendent Mark Marlowe to examine historical spending patterns and address three budget concerns, including a printing line-item overrun of 586 percent through January due to a misallocation. The $14,000 brass and hydrant equipment budget had not been expended as of the meeting; Marlowe agreed to complete inventory and restocking and commit to beginning work on the well pump replacement project by month's end.
A March 20 deadline for budget submission looms ahead of the spring Town Meeting.
