WEST NEWBURY — The Mill Pond Committee reaffirmed support for a simplified accessible trail at the pond, joining the Open Space Committee in a joint meeting to discuss advancing the long-stalled project. Patricia Reeser presented a streamlined design running from the dock parking area south along the existing walking trail, across the dike, and around to the point. Committee member Jason Goldweber noted that the trail surface must accommodate Fire and Rescue emergency vehicles the weight of a pickup truck.
The project, initiated with a state grant and voter-approved Community Preservation Act matching funds in 2021, stalled in 2022 after its original design proved too comprehensive. The simplified approach may proceed through preparatory work to position the project for future inclusion on the town's Work Plan.
