Open Space Committee approves trail safety signs at three locations.

Open Space Committee · Meeting of May 20, 2026

WEST NEWBURY — Open Space Committee unanimously backs equestrian safety signage. The committee, led by Chair Carol Decker, approved placement of three Essex County Trail Association informational signs at Mill Pond, Riverbend Trails, and the future Sawmill Brook Trail trailhead to clarify right-of-way rules for horses, bicyclists, and walkers following prior Selectboard approval. Associate member Patricia Reeser reported that a timeline for All Access Trail work at Mill Pond remains pending pending review of a Hudson trail project proposal, with an ANRAD still in effect.

Summer trail stewards have been hired, and an Invasive Working Group has prioritized removing invasive species from Cherry Hill Reservoir meadows and Mill Pond butterfly garden.
