Select Board approves 187 Main soil removal permit

Select Board · Meeting of October 8, 2026

WEST NEWBURY — The Select Board approved a soil removal permit for 187 Main Street. The permit carries two conditions: following the MassDEP-approved program and hand-delivering notice to abutters before trucking starts Monday. The applicant said about 388 cubic yards would leave in roughly 10 to 16 trucks.

The board also took public input on a consultant's organizational assessment, with residents largely opposing mergers of the Open Space, Mill Pond, Tree and Parks and Recreation bodies. It tabled the Northern Lights Camporee request, which involved 120 campers, and approved a town mission statement. Police overtime was reviewed, with the department running 10 full-time officers and two out.
