Open Space Committee approves prior minutes, reviews trail interns and bridge design.

Open Space Committee · Meeting of June 17, 2026

WEST NEWBURY — The Open Space Committee approved prior minutes and reviewed summer trail stewards training on invasive species management. Chair Carol Decker reported that interns Dillon Lee and Mia Hankey are targeting 10 to 12 invasive plants across town properties; member Patricia Reeser found the toxic vine Black Swallowwort at Mill Pond, triggering professional contractor treatment and Conservation Agent notification. The committee also discussed a revised bridge design for Little Stream at Sawmill Brook, awaiting Conservation Commission review, and heard testimony on a citizen petition to seasonally close Ash Street to protect blue-spotted salamanders and turtles during spring migration, with the Selectboard scheduled to address the proposal June 18.
