WEST NEWBURY — The Energy and Sustainability Committee unanimously re-elected Arthur (Chip) Wallace as chair, with four members present. The committee reviewed 2026 accomplishments, including completion of municipal aggregation's first full year of operation and ongoing streetlight LED conversion by National Grid. Richard Parker and Wallace reported on the National Grid Municipal Summit, highlighting advances in heat pump technology that function at low temperatures without backup heat and strategies to overcome electrical infrastructure barriers.
The committee flagged possible goals for the coming year, including public safety building improvements, examination of time-varying electricity rates, and revision of the 2018 decarbonization plan to remove lower-impact elements that have drawn negative reactions.
